The Swiss tennis player was so pleased by reaching the final in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships that he is taking a cruise to the arena.
Many believed we would see a classic Federer-Murray clash in the semi-finals of the ATP tour in Dubai.
However, the Scot let teenager Borna Ćorić from Croatia get away with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the quarter final so he could make an early return to his dearly beloved home in London.
That made things easier for Federer, who describes the win over Ćorić, world ranked 84, as a “comfortable” one.
“Playing tennis in such an amazing country in 22C is just the best feeling in the world. Heck, even if I had lost it would have been a comfortable loss. I can’t really complain about being here.
“Between every point we play I try to get as many glimpses of the surroundings as I possibly can,” Federer said.
On Saturday the tennis veteran, who is ranked number two in the world, will play his 126th ATP tour final in his career. And the 33-year-old knows how to celebrate in style.
According to his personal press officer the tennis player will do anything to not waste too much energy before the final.
He said: “It has been a few intense and energy draining days for Roger here in Dubai. It’s very hot and playing tennis is very exhausting.
“To charge his batteries between games he tends not to walk too much or drive by car. Since the court is so close to the sea he is definitely cruising to the final on Saturday.”
In the final Federer will meet a tough challenge in Novak Djokovic, who is ranked as the best in the world. The Serbian expects a close game.
“I am number one. He is number two. You cannot physically get any closer than that.
“I would say it’s a 50/50 chance for both of us. It will be either him or me that wins the final,” Djokovic predicted ahead of the game.
